Giving Helps us Fear God

When instructing His people in the area of giving in the Old Testament God gave them this reason for faithful giving, "in order that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always" (Deut.14:23). Obedience in giving leads to Reverence towards God. They gave a tenth of all their produce as an act of faith and obedience which brought them to a deeper realization of their dependence upon God. As God continued to supply their needs as they gave to Him first, they also learned of God's faithfulness and grew in their Reverence towards Him. Not surprisingly it works the same way today.
